Just a quick note. 88 blocks have been completed for our new Chopsticks quilt.
16 more in progress.
And hopefully 16 more can be made from the remaining strips. Each strip is 1" wide and 5 1/2" long.
Our Chopsticks design has begun using CorelDRAW X7.
For more details check My Quip – New Project Stared – Chopsticks.
If you have questions, thoughts, ideas please feel to contact us via email at Quilts SB.
Enjoy,

My Quip – New Quilt Project Started – Chopsticks
Good Day,
Well there have been a couple of Jelly Rolls just sitting on the shelf in our work room asking to be used.
Hell, don’t we all see and buy some fabric at some time and say to ourselves that’ll make a nice quilt? The new fabric was bought and then a number of other projects got in the way. There always seems to be another one that butts into the project schedule and line.

And then I picked up Karen Fisher’s 2012 book Easy Grid Quilts. I like Karen’s approach to color and her use of mathematical progressions. I like her use of classic patterns and her examples of composed quilts. I also admire the use of the word “Easy”.
Her piece Garland just triggered a thought that I may be able to use one of the Jelly Rolls socked away in our work room. Karen’s certainly looks like a beautiful use of the Rail Fence pattern.
I picked one labelled Chop Chop by Robert Kaufman Fabrics by Lunn Studios. Why not?
These are the current inspirations for our new Chopsticks. And here are some images of our current work. At this point 80 of 120 blocks have been completed.
Do we know what our final Chopsticks will look like? Well, somewhat. Do we know the intended size of our finished Chopsticks? Maybe. Somewhat. Do we have an idea of a final design? Well…maybe.
Oh yeah, each strip is, pre-sewn, 1" wide by 5 1/2" long.
Andy and I are just as interested in what our final outcome will be. You’ll have to keep checking back to see our progress and where we are going. There is sort of a freedom creating a quilt in this manner.
Two other almost completed projects are our new Equality and NT Celebrations quilts.
If you have questions, thoughts, ideas please feel to contact us via email at Quilts SB.
Enjoy,
Jim and Andy

My Quip – Our Equality Quilt – 99.99% of Quilting Completed
Good Day,
Thought you might be interested in an update.
99.99% of the quilting has been completed for our Equality Quilt.
Thank you Keith Haring for your vision.

99.99% of the quilting has been completed for our Equality Quilt.
Thank you Keith Haring for your vision.
With permission of the Keith Haring Foundation many months ago Andy and I received the go ahead to use Keith Haring’s art as a basis for our quilting work. We discussed a number of issues. The main issue we discussed was the possibility of reproduction for commercial use. (Obviously there are a lot of persons on this planet who do not necessarily follow the rule-of-thumb regarding copyright.)
I actually redrew Keith’s 1987 Untitled work on acetate. Next I then burnt a stencil through the acetate.
Andy then pounced the stencil with chalk powder. He then quilted each of the 81 blocks. Each block has 80 starts and stops which each has to be knotted and buried into the layers of the quilt sandwich. It took him about 3-plus hours per block. Oh and that’s about 6,480 starts and stops
The border is one that I created myself. Same technique with the burning tool and the acetate. As each set of "crowd" is 9 characters, which I also drew connected, Andy did not have as many starts and stops as for the blocks.
The quilting and the binding on our new and completed Equality quilt has been done. The four corner figures are left. Andy and I are both extremely pleased with our work and the final product. Stay tuned for my final write up of our Equality project journey at Quilts SB. (http://quiltssb.com/)
