This past summer Andy and were invited by Susanne Jones to consider the possibility of submitting entries to the Fly Me to the Moon: An Art Quilt Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Man’s Walk on the Moon. Betwixt and Between is one of our three entries.

The Fly Me to the Moon project is a multi-faceted juried exhibition. All-things-being-equal the exhibit will be in museums and galleries and NASA facilities. The majority of the participants are from the United States. International participants are from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom. Pieces selected will travel for the next four years.

All three of Andy's and my quilt wall-hangings - Betwixt and Between; Cosmo's Moon 2.5; and Apollo 1, The Beginning have been juried and accepted as a part of the Fly Me To The Moon project and journey.

Having lived in Tampa we have noted the minarets at the University of Tampa outlined in the evening sky enchanted by a full moon many a time and again. Our Betwixt and Between was inspired by the photographic work of Chris O’Meara of a super moon captured and flanked by minarets at the University of Tampa.

The dimensions of our Betwixt and Between are Width - 18" (45.7 cms) and Length - 30" (76.2 cms).  Fabrics are Graduation Batiks, all available from SewBatik.  Our techniques include piecing, strip piecing, foundation piecing, appliqué, color/shade manipulation, and free-hand/motion quilting.

Here is an image journey of our Betwixt and Between -

Betwixt and Between is now ready to embark on its journey with its companion pieces Cosmo's Moon 2.5 and Apollo 1 - The Beginning and all the other fabric art pieces selected to Fly Me To The Moon

Please feel free to email Andy and me at Quilts SB if you have any questions, comments, thoughts, ideas.

Enjoy,

Jim and Andy
