My Quip - Progress Report - Sleep Jezebel

Good Day,

Work is progressing on our new quilt and wall hanging Sleep Jezebel. All squares and triangles have been cut. We're using 14 fabrics.

Each square and constructed square is intended to be 1 3/4" square. We are sewing all 900 squares into 30 strips of 30 squares each.

And what will the final construction of Sleep Jezebel look like? Stay tuned.

Enjoy,

Jim and Andy

My Quip – A New Project – Sleep Jezebel – Quilt and Wall Hanging

Good Day,

Andy and I have added a new project. Right now we’re calling it Sleep Jezebel.

We've chosen a number of black, shades of grey and blue, and various beiges.

It is going to be another abstract mosaic-type quilt and wall hanging. Sleep Jezebel will be comprised of 900 1 ¾” squares, both just squares and squares made from triangles. Altogether we’re looking at about 900 squares with a possible dimension before a border and a binding of about 52 ½” square.

Andy and I are just guessing at what the final piece will look like, and nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Stay tuned to our progress and our Quilts SB updates.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any thoughts, ideas, questions at Quilts SB.

Enjoy,

Jim and Andy.

Q122 – La Vie en Rose – Quilt

Good Day,

Our new quilt is La Vie en Rose.

Our new quilt has a story, a very happy and positive story. It has been completed and delivered to its new home in Florida.

A very close friend of ours discovered a few months ago that she has breast cancer. Her diagnosis was positive. Her doctor established that she had in fact discovered a small malignant lump. The conclusion was that she indeed had an early stage of cancer. Early this week, surgery was performed and the tumor has been removed and our friend is already back at home. Hurrah for a timely and self-examination, and our friend is on the road to recovery and recuperation.

La Vie en Rose is our original construction and was inspired by the work of graphic designer Tilman Zitzmann.

La Vie en Rose is composed of four fabrics – two solid grey; one batik blue-grey; and a floral pink and white, “Party in Pink” designed by the Henry Glass Company. The completed dimensions of La Vie en Rose are: Width – 54” (137 cms.) and Length – 66” (168 cms.) It is just about the size of an Afghan/Lap size quilt.

The top is composed of both 1 ½” squares and squares of the same size created by triangles. The border is just about 5” (12.7 cms) completely surrounding the perimeter of the inner top. The binding was also created using the “Party in Pink” fabric.

It is a heavy and dense quilt as it is composed of four layers: the top, the back, and two layers of cotton batting. We used both our longarm and domestic machines to create a double hatch line pattern and a free-form/free-hand floral/vine pattern to provide both structure and compliment to the quilt. It is heavily quilted. We used thread by YLI; the front Sticks & Stones – a variegated grey, pink and white and Paris Boutique – a variegated pink and orange. The thread on the back is a solid grey.

Here are some more images of our new quilt, La Vie en Rose.

And the back -

All our best wishes and thoughts go to our friend.

Enjoy and bon chance,

Jim and Andy.
