My Quip - Florida Cabin Fever Quilters Guild, Orlando

Good Day,

Andy and I presented our Evolution last night in Orlando at the Florida Cabin Fever Quilters Guild. I believe we were well received and we certainly enjoyed ourselves.

We were able to present a number of our quilts and wall hangings that we have designed and made over the past number of short years that we decided to follow this path.

And the preview of a few of our completed tops definitely was a surprise.

Thank you ever so much for the invitation.

I am still waiting for the part to fix my main PC. All-things-being-equal I hope to have it returned this week. Three weeks without has most assuredly been the cause of a type of withdrawal. Once back in house I will be updating our quilting work to Quilts SB.

Enjoy,

Jim and Andy

My Quip – Yes, There are More Muffins – And Quilts and Wall Hangings

Good Day,

The latest batch of muffins were supposed to be cranberry muffins… Instead they are cranraisin muffins. I ran out of regular white flour and so I substituted 1/3 of the required with whole wheat. Made a streusel topping with brown sugar, butter, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. And now I’ve learned that I like to make the big muffins. Difference, 3 cups versus 2 cups of flour products. Final dozen, not bad… Figured I’m saving about $20.00 each time I make a batch, as compared to picking one up at a neighborhood Wifi coffee shoppe. And we can have seconds.

Our quilt and wall hanging work is progressing.

I have to keep reigning myself in regards to the number of a drafts and new designs I have on tap. Looks like we have received five new commissions, and a possibility of two more.

Here is our current Quilts SB quilts and wall hangings in progress.

  • The Amulet – In quilting stage

Both Blue Memories and Savanna's Memories have been delivered to their new homes. Feedback has been tremendous and thrilling.

SAQA is a non-profit international organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development and documentation. Our next meeting will be in October 2012. If you are interested please get in touch with me for details. Check out SAQA, Studio Art Quilt Associates.

My Quip – Dogwood Steps Quilt

Good Day,

And here is the first of my brief and momentary updates of some of the quilts we are currently working on.

Dogwood Steps is a commissioned quilt that will, upon completion, make its home in New York. Dogwood Steps will be similar in form and design to our Coral Steps... Coral Steps is our adaptation and inspired by the works of quilt artist Yoshiko Jinzenji.

Here are two of the fabrics that will be incorporated into Dogwood Steps.

Dogwood Steps is intended to be a California King sized quilt, so you can image how large the final result will eventually be.

If you are interested in commissioning your quilt please contact us.

Check out our currently available quilts at Quilts SB Etsy.

To see previously posted quilts, there is a visual Grid presentation at the bottom of the Quilts SB page. Move your cursor over any mini-picture found there and click to see an enlargement. My Quip - Our Quilts SB Update - PTL for Air Conditioning

Greetings,

I suppose a lot has been happening in our quilting world… especially in light of the fact that we do, fingers crossed, have our air-conditioning back.

NCBB Quilt is now in the sandwich stage and has been mounted to the Rack. All-things-being-equal the quilting will be completed by the beginning of next week.

Colored Windows II had been completed and all the paperwork has been submitted for entry to MQX West 2011. We’re sitting on pins and needles, no pun intended, as to whether our quilt will be accepted to be displayed at the MQX West show at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.

Colored Windows II is now also listed at our Quilts SB Etsy site.

Two of our quilts, Born This Way and Provence, are being entered for display at the Cabarrus Quilters Guild Splash of Color Fiber Art and Quilt Show 2011. This show will be held at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center in Concord, North Carolina.

The design of Coral Steps has been chosen to create a new adaptation and quilt called Dazzled Steps. Stay-tuned for the developing details. The inserted image is of one of the fabrics that will be included in this new endeavor.

A series of black and white printed fabrics have been selected for the creation of our first quilt and wall hanging of our new Cathedral Windows Series.

Mondrian I is next in line to be quilted. I am thinking about adapting a free-form crackle effect to give each window panel that “antique glass” type consequence. Just a thought.

A number of other new designs are in the make. Stay-tuned and keep checking our updates at Quilts SB.

Q87 - The Happy Bug Quilt

Afternoon and a Happy 4th of July,

The top to The Happy Bug Quilt has been finished. This is not a finished quilt… and I’m not sure, in quilting vernacular, I would call it a UFO, even though it is an “unfinished object”.

The dimensions of The Happy Bug Quilt are a 42 ½” (108 cms) square. There are seven fabrics, of 100% cotton used in the construction. Six of the fabrics are products of Quick Cuts series Stripz. The Happy Bug Quilt is an adaptation of the Cross Bows design by Kimberly Einmo as found in her latest AQS publication Jelly Roll Quilts & More.

Here are a couple more images of The Happy Bug Quilt.

I am posting the top in anticipation that if someone should like to have it personalized, which we can do with embroidery, we will be able to do that. The Happy Bug Quilt would be a nice Gift for a little girl or granddaughter. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested in discussing details.

Q86 - MMW - Quilt

Early Morning,

And again… Our next and 86th Quilt – MMW. And no, it is not a four-wheel drive.

This new quilt is the announcement of a little girl. MMW is a picture frame quilt of our own and original design.

The dimensions of MMW are: Width – 44” (111.8 cms) and Length – 35” (88.9 cms). There are only two fabrics used in the construction. The green polka dotted fabric, A Bit of Whimsy Dots Green, is used as the background and backing of the quilt. It complements the printed fabric, A Bit of Whimsy Border Stipe Pink which we cut to create the strips and borders of the consecutive frames. In the center of MMW the name and date of birth are embroidered to celebrate and declare the event. The quilting is done is a diamond gridded pattern and the thread is a variegated pink.

Here are images, including close-ups and the backing of MMW.

For the purposes of consideration and caution, on these images, the embroidered names and date have been blurred out. The embroidery is complemented in a blue thread.

Q85 – LPW - Quilt

Evening,

We’re back again… and we’re all healed, recuperated, and raring to go. The first new quilt, our 85th is a little quilt – LPW.

LPW is our design. LPW is the celebration of the birth of a little boy… the new Little Chief of his family.

LPW’s dimensions are – Width: 35” (88.9 cms) and Length: 50 ½” (128.3 cms). A simple construction of rectangles of three fabrics, two blues and a patterned “Here we come!” bear firemen and trucks.

Here are some images, including close-ups and the backings of LPW.

To personalize LPW, we have embroidered the little boy's names and birth date on the face of the quilt. For the purposes of consideration and caution I have blurred out, on these images, the embroidered names and date.

Q84 – Colored Windows - Quilt

Ta-da! And good afternoon.

The road to healing is through color and quilting. Don’t know if anyone said that, but it certainly sounds so, so good. Andy’s recovery is amazing… and it just presents itself in all its glory in our newly finished, quilt – Colored Windows.

Our 84th quilt… and still counting. Colored Windows is our adaptation of Amy Walsh’s pattern, Rear Window. It is kismet that Jimmy Stewart as L. B. “Jeff” Jeffries, in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, is recuperating and wheelchair bound. Andy is currently mending from his bypass surgery, and as Jeff Jeffries kept his camera in hand, so did Andy work with his needle and thread.

Colored Windows' dimensions are – Width: 64” (163 cms); Length 79 ½” (202 cms). We have used three primary- and three secondary-colored batik fabrics, as well as a patterned black one to create the shades of all the windows. Three dappled beige-to-brown fabrics were incorporated to generate the window frames, the brick wall, the backing, and the binding.

Here are some images of close-ups and the backing of Colored Windows.
