My Quip - One Quilt Picture is Worth A Thousand Pieces of Fabric

Good Day,

An amazing new, sort-of, function with my iPhone is the capability of taking panoramic pictures... And I am using my iPhone 4s.

The Great Bargello Project, presented as a special exhibit at MQX West, in Portland, is the construction of eight quilts by four Ohio friends from a pile of 464 two-inch strips and strip sets at 174 inches long. Tremendous colors and and awe-inspiring. Amazing work - Anna Fricker, Susan Hill, Chris Landis, and Mary Miller.

And I wanted to capture the complete effect of the display of The Great Bargello Project. The panoramic picture function of the iPhone, I think does exactly that.

My Quip – Two New Quilt and Wall-Hanging Designs Completed

Good Day and A Merry Christmas Eve,

Last night’s supper was a wee bit of a surprise to me; a Spicy Shrimp and Black Bean Corn Chowder. Pleasantly surprised. Onion and bird’s eye chilis; chicken broth and tomato purée. Corn, black beans, culantro, sugar, and salt. Filling and really, realy good.

We are all wrapped in fabric today. Dogwood Steps Quilt is off the Longarm and the binding has been attached. This is one enormous quilt. All-things-being-equal it is heavier than NC the Coast. And it looks fabulous.

The first strip of nine blocks, for our Blue Diamonds Quilt, has been completed. Thanks M for your comments and thoughts. We are both really pleased with the overall design.

I have completed a new design for the construction of a new Bargello quilt. The new quilt is called Rán… and no, not for Ran the movie. It is in thought of a Norwegian Sea Goddess. As we work on this quilt I will reveal bit-by-bit my reasons and warped thought process. Our target date for Rán is March.

I have also completed a new design for a completely new quilt which will, all-things-being-equal, be a new challenge for us. The thought for this wall-hanging is a mosaic-type quilt. It is of the American Eagle. All-things-being-equal we will try for completion in late spring.

The fabric for The Amulet is on the table. Next task is to scan all fabrics and rearrange those which will create The Amulet. Stay tuned for the updates.

My Quip – Christmas Cosine Quilt Travels To New Home

Good Day,

Christmas Cosine Quilt (Q14) has found a new home in time for the Holidays.

It will be making the sleigh journey to Seffner, Florida.



There are now 13 Christmas and Holiday Quilts available.

Q91 – NC the coast - Quilt

Good Day,

And our newly completed quilt, NC the coast is now bound for its new home, North Carolina. This blue Bargello quilt is a work of art. We are so pleased how this has turned out. It should please its new owner who asked us to present a work that would capture for them, their love of the North Carolina sea coast.

Presented with three elements: the NC coast; the waves; and the color, blue jewel, our composition does present the foundations in their quilt, NC the coast. And NC the coast is topped off with their signature, the blue embroidered hearts.

NC the coast is a constructed four-by-four grid of Bargello waves. The waves, their foam peaks, and the watery depths are composed of 16 fabrics in a progression of varying shades to provide that inevitable movement of the sea. The backing fabric is a beige light sand hue highlighted with swirls of corresponding colors and shades that offset the waves lapping on the shore.

The dimensions of NC the coast are: Width – 92.5” (235 cms); Length – 103.5 “ (263 cms). All fabrics and batting are 100% cotton.

My Quip – Happy New Year – NC Blue Bargello – A New Quilt

Good Afternoon and A Happy New Year…

Actually have another happy 361 days of 2011.

We’re working a new quilt, which we’ve titled at the moment, NC Blue Bargello, (NCBB), and we are most excited as to the design and work that we are undertaking. NCBB is and will be an adventure of our experience working with quilting Bargello techniques.

As you will soon see, the design of NCBB is based on our two previous quilts, Beige Bargello and Christmas Cosine.

But NCBB is a larger quilt. At first count the top will be constructed, not including the borders or the binding of approximately 6,200 pieces. The pieces range in size from ½” (1.27 cm) by 1 ½” (3.81 cm) up to 2 ½” (6.35 cm) by 1 ½” (3.81 cm). The pieces are cut from 16 fabrics of the colors and shades of blue, green, beige, sand, and white. The combined borders will approximate 12” (30.48 cm).

The inserted images are of the choice of fabrics that will make up NCBB. Please remember that there may be some color difference due to lighting, software, and browser capabilities.

My Quip – Happy Boxing Day

Happy Boxing Day, and Enjoy the Feast of St. Stephen…

On the 2nd day of Christmas, Two Turtle Doves, and a Partridge in a Pear Tree, and the winds are howling out-of-doors. The Pack are all sleeping on new beds and blankets. And it is now appears to be the official day of the year to change one’s profile on Facebook.

Three quilts have made their way to their new homes. Starry Nights to Belleair; Christmas Harlequin Plus to Clearwater; and Hidden Treasure to Land O’Lakes.

The strips for NC Blue Bargello have been put together and the tubes are currently under way. The inserted image is of our fabric key.

A new commission for a turquoise and queen size quilt has come in. I am in the design phase of this new idea. I am also toying with an idea to create a woven Bargello design series.

Q57 – Quilt – Continuation – Wall Hanging

Afternoon,

Continuation has been completed. It is a quilted wall hanging of a landscape with the intended hope of an insight into the elements of a family genealogy. Continuation is an abstract that incorporates Bargello, mosaic, and strip-piecing techniques.

The dimensions of Continuation are: Width – 35 ¼” (89.5 cms) and Length – 48 ½” (123.2 cms). The fabrics were chosen to represent the sky, the woods and the forests, the hills and the mountains, the mist of the Falls, the waters of the river and lake, the fields of farmed and tilled lands, and a solitary tree and leaf.

Continuation is destined to find its way to its new home in Asheville, North Carolina.

Here are the close-ups of the front and the back. The quilting of the sky and landscape is parallel lines one-half inch apart. The quilting of the tree and branch are free-form intended to represent the bark lines. Please note that colors in the images may vary on line.
