My Quip – We Are Working On Quilts – In Progress and Update

Good Day,

Just to give you a quick summary of the quilts and wall-hangings that Andy and I are currently working on. And yes, those of you who know me know that I have to have everything written down and scheduled to the nth degree. My grey matter sometimes seizes up… and so I have to have some sort of organized planning.

The house is definitely looking like a sweat shop, of sorts... but I am trying to keep organized. I'm trying.

The following is a list of the quilts and wall-hangings that Andy and I are currently working on.

Hexi-Abuelita – Half-hexagon construction of used clothes. Top completed.

Gran’s Reminiscences – A reconstruction wall-hanging from a couple of old quilts. Currently in design phase.

EssbeeCon – Template and construction designed. All fabrics chosen. Blocks are currently being pieced.

Test 40 – An exciting new angle we’ve come up designing a quilt. Just wait. The colors have been chosen and the top is completed. The quilting design has now been decided upon. Should prove very interesting.

Cosmo’s Moon – Drawing has been completed. Fabrics have been chosen. We’re really excited about this one.

Confetti Primary – Thread has been chosen. Fabric colors to be determined. Initial design has been laid out. Work to continue on creating templates.

The Amulet – Initial quilting has been removed. We decided that we needed to change the thread color. The quilt sandwich is prepared.

Astro-Physics – All initial piecing has been completed. Structural design and placement in development.

Blumish – All prep work has been completed based on original design. Working now on deconstruction phase of design.

Joseph’s Coat – Top completed. This is one amazing melding of colors and we are really pleased with our efforts.

Joseph’s Ladder Pants – The preliminary design has been completed. All blocks have been pieced and created. We are currently working on placement of sashing.

Mauk II – Blocks and top are currently in progress. Quilting design to be determined.

Rán – This Bargello construction should prove interesting. All fabric has been chosen. Currently developing quilting design.

Gunta Stölz – All fabrics have arrived. We are currently working on the intricate design in the hopes to be a testimony to the artist.

Batique OM I – Blocks in progress. Design to be determined.

Batique OM II – Blocks in progress. Design to be determined.

Civil War Re-enactment II – Fabric has been decided. Complementary design is currently under way.

Eagle – Mosaic design has been completed. Fabric obtained.

Orange Peel Indian Summer – Top completed. Quilting design to be determined.

Just Trees – Semblance of artwork has been discussed. Process continues.

1961 Bargello – Formula concocted to create design. Bargello grid is next step. Fabric and color choices are currently underway.

If you are interested of commissioning and working with Andy and I to create your memory quilt, please contact us. If you would like some more information of available quilts, regarding costs, shipping, and insurance, please check our Quilts SB Etsy shop.

Andy and I are moving at a steady pace with our quilt and fabric wall hanging work. Keep abreast of all updates. I have added a “Follow By Email” capability at the bottom right of each posting under The Grid. You can also become a Follower of Quilts SB. Click on the “Join this site” to follow Quilts SB. I’ve added another means to follow the images of our quilt creations via Pinterest.

My Quip – And Sometimes You Never Know – McCall's America Quilts Together

Good Day,

Sometime in January McCall's Quilting invited quilters, throughout the United States, who quilted together in partnership or groups to submit a story of their partnership. McCall's was planning a special issue for 2012 with a quilting together theme.

Andy and I answered the call. I asked my brother, Ray to take a photograph of us. I wrote up a quick synopsis, submitted the information, and then filed it away in the constant growing stash of folders on my hard drive.

Earlier this week Andy received a message from a friend, Judy in Delaware. She had just opened her copy of McCall's Quilting magazine, the Autumn 2012 edition, and lo and behold, on page 23 there was Ray's picture of Andy and me, titled Quilts SB – Tampa, FL. Needless to say we were all pleasantly surprised.

In the photograph we are at one of our domestic sewing machines, Janome 6300. Included are two of our works in progress, since completed, our Tampa Lightning and Mondrian I. Both Tampa Lightning and Mondrian I will be on display, this October 5 and 6, at the A Splash of Color Quilt Show sponsored by the Cabarrus Quilters Guild, in Concorde, North Carolina.

Other of our works soon to be on display are our special exhibit Evolution and two new quilts, Who Did Desi Adore? And I Really Love Lucy. Our 28 quilts and wall hangings will be presented at the Machine Quilters Exhibition – MQX West 2012, October 16 through 20 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.

Two of our quilts, Blue Chambray and AKA Kumquat's Lorax will be on display at the University of South Florida Botanical Gardens as presented by the Cypress Creek Quilters Guild, November 10 Show, A Garden of Quilting Delights, in Tampa, Florida.

Stay tuned to our progress and updates.

Enjoy,

Andy and Jim.

My Quip - Provence and Born This Way On Route To Cabarrus County, NC

Good morning and good afternoon,

We’ve been somewhat quiet these past few days, that is, quiet in the realm of our Quilts SB. It is not that we have forsaken our passion of quilt-making but... lightning strikes, a refrigerator catching fire, a new puppy, Radar, the addition to The Pack, and learning to sous-vide cook. (I’m still wondering if there is a verb to cooking à la sous vide... Sous-viding - pronounced sue-veeding.) We have been working diligently on a number of quilts.

Two quilts entries, Provence and Born This Way, hit the mail today. They are on their way to A Splash of Color Fiber Art & Quilt Show 2011, to take place this coming October 7th and 8th. The Show will be held at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center in Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina.

Our NCBB Quilt, that is, North Carolina Blue Bargello Quilt, is off the rack. The quilting is done and the binding has been attached. This queen size quilt, soon to make its home in North Carolina is simply breath-taking. I will be writing a complete description upon final completion. Just wait until you see it.

We have received a new commission. This new Steps Quilt will be based on our award-winning quilt, Coral Steps. The fabrics for the top have been finalized. I am pleased to say that the two fabrics are just tremendous. And yes I did mention this in a previous Post, but we have changed the fabrics since that announcement... and if I may say for something that will blow you out of the water. (But then again I am a wee bit prejudiced.) And the final home for Steps Quilt will be New York.

A number of other new designs are in the make. Stay-tuned and keep checking our updates at Quilts SB.

My Quip - Our Quilts SB Update - PTL for Air Conditioning

Greetings,

I suppose a lot has been happening in our quilting world… especially in light of the fact that we do, fingers crossed, have our air-conditioning back.

NCBB Quilt is now in the sandwich stage and has been mounted to the Rack. All-things-being-equal the quilting will be completed by the beginning of next week.

Colored Windows II had been completed and all the paperwork has been submitted for entry to MQX West 2011. We’re sitting on pins and needles, no pun intended, as to whether our quilt will be accepted to be displayed at the MQX West show at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.

Colored Windows II is now also listed at our Quilts SB Etsy site.

Two of our quilts, Born This Way and Provence, are being entered for display at the Cabarrus Quilters Guild Splash of Color Fiber Art and Quilt Show 2011. This show will be held at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center in Concord, North Carolina.

The design of Coral Steps has been chosen to create a new adaptation and quilt called Dazzled Steps. Stay-tuned for the developing details. The inserted image is of one of the fabrics that will be included in this new endeavor.

A series of black and white printed fabrics have been selected for the creation of our first quilt and wall hanging of our new Cathedral Windows Series.

Mondrian I is next in line to be quilted. I am thinking about adapting a free-form crackle effect to give each window panel that “antique glass” type consequence. Just a thought.

A number of other new designs are in the make. Stay-tuned and keep checking our updates at Quilts SB.
