Q154 – New Arrival – New Quilt

Good Day,

A new grand-nephew deserved a unique, simple and creative new quilt. One that he can call his own.

New Arrival
JS AB - August 2017

New Arrival is our 154th quilt. It is now at home in South Carolina.

We modified the chevron design for this special kid. And for those who are looking, there are many incidences, as well as Internet hits, for an easily adapted pattern. (Actually, there are 1,440,000 results when you search for the phrase “Chevron named baby quilt”.)

The dimensions of New Arrival are approximate, give or take 51” long and about 40” wide. The letters of the name were cut using AccuQuilt’s 3” alphabet's dies.

Our quilting design is a cross-hatch pattern between the colored chevrons and a simple echoing parallel line pattern in the large blank space.

Here are some of our images of our work and progress with New Arrival.

Q153 – Frente – New Quilt, Wall-Hanging – Part 2

Good Day,

In collaboration with Ya Levy La’Ford, (http://yalaford.com/), Andy and I would like to introduce to you to our 153rd quilt, Frente.

Frente - YL, AB, and JS - 2017

Frente is the expression of how communities should strive to work very together.  A unified and cohesive community can center itself around a singular goal.  All borders and boundaries are crossed over to create a singular and moving unit..

Frente is a quilted wall-hanging composition created of 45 “pot-holder” quilts placed in a prescribed pattern on the surface of its companion piece Espalda. All-things-being-equal Espalda can stand by itself.

Please check out Espalda, our companion collaboration and our 152nd quilt.

The unified dimension of Frente is 72” wide by 48” long. It is composed of 100% cotton from SewBatik. The black strips are appliquéd. The quilting design is simple in order to allow the design be the message.

All 45 Frente mini-quilts are backed with corresponding Velcro dots. These dots are the means we used to attach the mini-quilts of Frente to Espalda.
