My Quip – Blumish Two (Q113) – Some More Pictures

Good Day,

Andy and I were asked if we could take some more pictures of our Blumish Two.

Blumish Two resulted from the scraps and left-over pieces of Blumish One. Blumish One, the top has been finished but the complete quilt is just waiting to be done. And no we did not intend for it to look like nautical signal flags.

My Quip - Cosmo's Moon Accepted to MANifestations, Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum

Good Day,

We just received notice that our Cosmo's Moon has been selected as entry for the MANifestations 12th Biennial Exhibit of Quilts Made by Men at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden, Colorado.

The exhibit will run from January 30 through April 29, 2014.

Andy and I are extremely excited and very pleased.

My Quip – An Unnamed Classic – A New Quilt Under Construction

Good Day,

Andy and I received a commission to create a “nice” and “relaxing” quilt. The discussion was that the new quilt, possibly a lap quilt, should be a welcoming fit with a certain room’s décor. The color and fabrics were chosen and we worked on the design. In our design and construction work we are creating a sample and prototype. Our new quilt design – An Unnamed Classic.

Our new quilt design is a very simple but classic one. It is sort of an unassuming variation on a long-cabin, a woven log, and a Bonnie Scotsman pattern.

With the combination of the batiks (two) and solid color (two) fabrics An Unnamed Classic can be considered, depending upon which side of the fence one is on, either traditional or modern. I think we like to lean toward a contemporary design.

The current dimensions of An Unnamed Classic, without the border, are both width and length – 61” (155 cms).  Here are some additional images.

We are now working on the quilting design.

Q113 – Blumish Two – Quilt and Wall Hanging

Good Day,

Our newest and most recently completed quilt and wall hanging is our Blumish Two.

Blumish Two is our composition of 56 six-inch and unique blocks. Our quilt was inspired by the work of Yoshiko Jinzenji from her Quilting Line + Color, 2005, Modern Patchwork Throw. We were also motivated by the works of Piet Mondrian.

Andy and I had leftover fabric from our, still to be completed Blumish One, (thank you Kimberly Einmo for that one).  Andy and I brainstormed on the creation of a quilt with the remnants and scraps. We worked with a gradation of blues and beige-browns.

The dimensions of Blumish Two are: Width – 54” (137.2 cms); Length – 64” (162.6 cms). We pieced our Blumish Two with our Janome Memory Craft 6300 and completed the quilting freehand with our Baby Lock Jewel.  The quilting pattern is our own construction.

Our Blumish Two was accepted and chosen as a finalist at MQX Quilt Festival - Pacific Northwest 2013 in Portland, Oregon along with our Cosmo's Moon.

My Quip - Quilting Still Continues - Some New Ideas

Good Day,

Andy and I are currently working on the new designs for three new quilts: The Bird Cage, The Party's Over, and GPS.

Of course this doesn't mean that we have stopped working on just a few other quilt projects. Tampa Kaleidoscope is currently on our longarm machine.

The Bird Cage is based on JG's photographs and his construction of some extraordinary bird houses.

The Party's Over is a new art quilt that we are going to try. I am using a piece of "art" that I created for an art class that I taught some years ago.  The piece was Ladies on Boardwalk. I'm still trying to remember and figure out of who was the artist that I copied.. This one should be an interesting construction and journey. I am going to use, I believe, a technique that I used that many years ago and thank you Kathy Wiggins for tripping that memory.

GPS is a possible inspiration of the art of Gustav Klimt.

Who knows where these will lead? Details to follow on Quilts SB, when I get my PC back.

Our current project list is in order of our priorities. "C" means that that area is completed, and a percentage is the degree of completion. A blank space translates to "We haven't got there yet."

All-things-being-equal when I get my PC, which has all my data storage, back I will posting and display our final presentation of our Blumish Two. This one turned out much better than we expected and we are pleased at the final results.

My Quip - Florida Cabin Fever Quilters Guild, Orlando

Good Day,

Andy and I presented our Evolution last night in Orlando at the Florida Cabin Fever Quilters Guild. I believe we were well received and we certainly enjoyed ourselves.

We were able to present a number of our quilts and wall hangings that we have designed and made over the past number of short years that we decided to follow this path.

And the preview of a few of our completed tops definitely was a surprise.

Thank you ever so much for the invitation.

I am still waiting for the part to fix my main PC. All-things-being-equal I hope to have it returned this week. Three weeks without has most assuredly been the cause of a type of withdrawal. Once back in house I will be updating our quilting work to Quilts SB.
