Q57 – Quilt – Continuation – Wall Hanging

Afternoon,

Continuation has been completed. It is a quilted wall hanging of a landscape with the intended hope of an insight into the elements of a family genealogy. Continuation is an abstract that incorporates Bargello, mosaic, and strip-piecing techniques.

The dimensions of Continuation are: Width – 35 ¼” (89.5 cms) and Length – 48 ½” (123.2 cms). The fabrics were chosen to represent the sky, the woods and the forests, the hills and the mountains, the mist of the Falls, the waters of the river and lake, the fields of farmed and tilled lands, and a solitary tree and leaf.

Continuation is destined to find its way to its new home in Asheville, North Carolina.

Here are the close-ups of the front and the back. The quilting of the sky and landscape is parallel lines one-half inch apart. The quilting of the tree and branch are free-form intended to represent the bark lines. Please note that colors in the images may vary on line.

Q53 – Quilt – Deer Lake

Afternoon,

Our next quilt, Deer Lake, has been completed and will soon find its way to its new home in Highland Grove, Ontario.

Deer Lake is one of our original designs in which we used Deb Strain’s Moda fabric line titled Cherish Nature. Our design is a variation of a quilt block template called Diamond in the Square.

Deer Lake has been made to be a wall-hanging. Its dimensions are: Width – 34” (86.4 cms) and Length – 76” (193 cms). The determination of the organic colors and blending of the shades were made after a series of interviews. In keeping with the requestor’s like for our quilt Harlequin, (see Q9) and the home and neighboring environment, the design was completed keeping in mind its final location purported to be a pine wall in the house.

Here are some close-ups.

And now we are working on a new design – Continuation, which will eventually be headed for Ashville, North Carolina. Two other designs are in the draft stage; a color variation on Rainbow Glass and an abstract modeling of a skyscraper.

We have a number of tops completed and in line to be quilted. These include: Rainbow Glass; Tango 3; Kanzashi; PJ & Packages; Christmas Morning I; Christmas Morning II; and Isle of The Misfit Toys.

Q45 – Quilt - Hydra

Evening,

One never knows what one may find hidden in the recesses of the old and many databases tucked away on one’s PC. I’m just amazed. Tonight I just found a picture of a quilt we designed and completed in 2000. The quilt was named Hydra and it was donated to the organization Art For Life.

Hydra was made to be a wall-hanging and from what I understand it was sold at auction and is a part of a collection. I found my specification file as well and we can approximate that the final quilt was about 76” (193 cms.) wide and 58” (147 cms.) in length. The quilt is made up of six colored fabrics: yellow; orange; red; purple; blue; and green; and it includes black and white. There are a total of 822 – 2 ½” squares; 136 – 2 ¾” triangles; and 10 mini-triangles.

As a side, I did notice one thing about the Hydra hanging. The wooden dowel used at the top of the quilt is the same dowel that I bought on that day in February when I was involved in the car accident. Funny, what’s at times hidden in an image in a folder in the recesses of one’s PC.

Q44 – Quilt - KittyWood

Early morning,

As I mentioned previously, we are trying to provide an album of as many of the quilts that we have made over the years, and thank you KF for sending the pictures of your wall hanging, KittyWood. This quilt and wall hanging was our first attempt of creating a landscape of a birch wood using the fabric as appliques cutouts.

The dimensions of KittyWood are: Width – 26.5” (67.3 cms) and Length – 37” (93.9 cms). As a part of a collection, KittyWood was removed from its home on the wall for the photo shoot.

Here are a close-up and an image of the back of the quilt.

Q22 – Quilt – White River Rafting

Today’s first quilt is an original design of a variation on bargello techniques, a blending of colors and quilting, obviously, that lends to the effect of a river, of sorts. (That is, in my mind’s eye…) Hence we named it White River Rafting, but there’s nary a raft.

Dimensions: Length - 66" (168 cms); Width – 49" (125 cms). This is wall quilt, and based on your druthers, it could be hung in any direction.

To see previously posted quilts, type any Q# coding in the search box at the upper left-hand on my Blog page; to date Q1 through Q22. Q13 - Quilt - Warhol's Marilyn

This quilt, a wall hanging was created using Andy Warhol's Marilyn Diptych 1963, from a private collection.

This was the first attempt at conversion to cross-stitch needlepoint using a scanner and a unique PC program I found in 1998. The stitch work and coloring is identical from panel to panel and the fabric background is in keeping with the ideas of Andy Warhol. The dramatic diagonals offset the individual portraits.

Dimensions - Width: 35" (89 cm) and Length: 31½" (80 cm).

This quilt is not available. If you are interested, and would like some more information of the available quilts, regarding costs, shipping, and insurance, please get in touch with me at our Quilts SB Etsy shop.

To see previously posted quilts, type Q1 through Q12 in the search box on the Blog page. Also check the left-hand column and click on the mini-pictures and/or "Q" labels.

Stay-tuned for our next quilts.

Enjoy,
