Q86 - MMW - Quilt

Early Morning,

And again… Our next and 86th Quilt – MMW. And no, it is not a four-wheel drive.

This new quilt is the announcement of a little girl. MMW is a picture frame quilt of our own and original design.

The dimensions of MMW are: Width – 44” (111.8 cms) and Length – 35” (88.9 cms). There are only two fabrics used in the construction. The green polka dotted fabric, A Bit of Whimsy Dots Green, is used as the background and backing of the quilt. It complements the printed fabric, A Bit of Whimsy Border Stipe Pink which we cut to create the strips and borders of the consecutive frames. In the center of MMW the name and date of birth are embroidered to celebrate and declare the event. The quilting is done is a diamond gridded pattern and the thread is a variegated pink.

For the purposes of consideration and caution, on these images, the embroidered names and date have been blurred out. The embroidery is complemented in a blue thread.

Q85 – LPW - Quilt

Evening,

We’re back again… and we’re all healed, recuperated, and raring to go. The first new quilt, our 85th is a little quilt – LPW.

LPW is our design. LPW is the celebration of the birth of a little boy… the new Little Chief of his family.

LPW’s dimensions are – Width: 35” (88.9 cms) and Length: 50 ½” (128.3 cms). A simple construction of rectangles of three fabrics, two blues and a patterned “Here we come!” bear firemen and trucks.

To personalize LPW, we have embroidered the little boy's names and birth date on the face of the quilt. For the purposes of consideration and caution I have blurred out, on these images, the embroidered names and date.

Q84 – Colored Windows - Quilt

Ta-da! And good afternoon.

The road to healing is through color and quilting. Don’t know if anyone said that, but it certainly sounds so, so good. Andy’s recovery is amazing… and it just presents itself in all its glory in our newly finished, quilt – Colored Windows.

Our 84th quilt… and still counting. Colored Windows is our adaptation of Amy Walsh’s pattern, Rear Window. It is kismet that Jimmy Stewart as L. B. “Jeff” Jeffries, in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, is recuperating and wheelchair bound. Andy is currently mending from his bypass surgery, and as Jeff Jeffries kept his camera in hand, so did Andy work with his needle and thread.

Colored Windows' dimensions are – Width: 64” (163 cms); Length 79 ½” (202 cms). We have used three primary- and three secondary-colored batik fabrics, as well as a patterned black one to create the shades of all the windows. Three dappled beige-to-brown fabrics were incorporated to generate the window frames, the brick wall, the backing, and the binding.

My Quip - Andy Continues To Heal - Colored Windows Nears Completion

Good Afternoon,

I am just amazed at the healing that the machine, we call our body, at times can process.

It has been three weeks since Andy had his quadruple/triple bypass surgery. Four 95% plus or minus blockages across three major arteries and an arterial branch. Three bypass detours created from a vein harvested from his leg.

He's up and about, slowly, and he ain't driving his car nor our long-arm quilting machine. But he is washing dishes again! He doesn't want to dislodge the six twist-ties holding his sternum together. (Suggestion - Save those bread-bag twist ties for a greater purpose... than the kitchen junk drawer.)

Andy would definitely like to thank all of you for the get-well cards, emails, and messages. Thanks for including him in your thoughts and even, your prayers.

And believe it or not he is back to finishing, quilting, and binding our latest Quilt - Colored Windows. (See My Quip - Colored Windows Quilt Progress.) This will be one Fantastic Quilt...

My Quip - AB and Pigs In A Blanket

Afternoon,

Joyous Easter, Happy Passover, Happy Arbor Day, Wondrous Lover's Day and what ever other holiday you are celebrating this weekend. And tomorrow, April 24th, make sure you set some time aside to observe National Pigs in a Blanket Day.

This past week has been extremely hectic. The majority of our quilt work has been on hold as Andy decided that it was a wee bit important that he have triple by-pass surgery and the required operation. His surgery went very well and he is now on the road to a slow, but unqualified recovery.

Andy's only comment is "Damn... there is only six more inches to quilt on our Colored Glass quilt." Guess he'll have to teach me how to use that part of the machine. And he bloody well better get healed soon as we have nine more quilts in the chutes.

Both Coral Steps and Primary Twister have been shipped and received at HMQS 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Again enjoy this holiday weekend. And remember your heart, when you eat too, too much.

Q83 – Mystery Jelly Plus - Quilt

Good Early Morning,

Our next and most recently completed quilts – Mystery Jelly Plus, (MJ+). MJ+ is now on its way to its new home in North Carolina.

Our thanks to Kimberly Einmo, for the impetus of our adaptation of her original design.

The beginnings of MJ+ is a nine-block square. We increased it to 20 blocks and included sashing as a border around and between each block. Also a double border has been added around the perimeter. The dimensions of MJ+: Width - 64 ½” (164 cms); Length – 77 ½” (197 cms).

The fabrics are from Moda’s fabric line Maison de Garance designed by French General. The base colors are red and chocolate and variations thereof. This very popular Moda line can be seen at their Moda website as well as is available through many distributors and fabric shops, including Fabric.com and Hancock’s of Paducah.

Here are a number of images of MJ+; front, close-ups, and back. Please note that the colors of this quilt may be affected somewhat by the outdoor lighting and the quality of my picture taking.

This is the same quilt that had the preliminary name of Mystery Jelly.
